What is Counselling?
Counselling is a therapy in which a trained person (counsellor) listens to the problems, concerns or anxieties of another. The counsellor actively listens and supports without judging or reaching conclusions on the person’s behalf: enabling that person to find their own answers.
Counselling is a confidential service based on respect & trust which takes place in a safe, secure environment between two people.
Is Counselling right for me?
Counselling can benefit people from all walks of life who are going through a period of emotional or psychological distress and confusion, which is hindering their normal capacity to function in their everyday lives effectively.
It is an opportunity to identify what changes are needed to reduce any distress, and to support you while you consider how to do this.
Counselling can give you back control in those areas of your life currently troubling you.
What happens during the first session?
Counselling at The Retreat is offered on a one to one basis, in a secure and private setting, so that you can feel free to share your concerns in confidence. Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk to the counsellor to clarify the areas of your life that you want to cover.
The Counsellor may at this stage advise you as to how future sessions may be formed, and suggest a follow up appointment or course of sessions as appropriate.
What happens next?
The objective is for you to reach informed decisions and feel confident about putting these decisions into practice in your everyday life. You will be given time and space to express yourself in your own time, and in your own way without fear of judgement.
How long will it take?
This is like asking “how long is a piece of string!” It is considered that 6 sessions is a mean average for counselling. However some people feel that two or three sessions is all they need, and others need more time – it will depend on you. Depending how your counselling sessions work out, you may wish to take short break in the counselling process to work on issues that have emerged, returning later when ready to explore some more.

Sandra offers counselling to adults on a one to one basis, and has worked with people with a variety of problems including:

Advanced Dip. Counselling
Sandra gained her Counselling qualification in 2006. She is a member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), and follows their guidelines for professional standards and good conduct.
Sandra is an integrated counsellor which means that she is trained and experienced in different schools of counselling – everyone is an individual and so she can offer a more tailored counselling service.
Sandra also currently works as a Counsellor for the Royal College of Nursing, and has a wealth of experience including The Probation Service and relapse prevention.
She has worked for a large substance misuse agency counselling clients and finding them suitable work and training opportunities.
Sandra has also worked with an agency dealing primarily with street homeless, and has over six years in Mental Health Services within the NHS gaining experience of personality disorders, self-harm, schizophrenia & psychosis.

Monday 10am – 4pm
Wednesday 5pm – 8pm
Initial Session
55 minutes - £45
Follow up session
55 minutes - £45
Course of 6 sessions
55 minutes x 6 - £240
Payment is due in full after each appointment without exception.
Payment for courses is due in full after 1st session. All sessions paid for in advance must be attended within 6 months.
Any sessions not attended without sufficient notice (48 hours) will be subject to a cancellation fee upto the full value of that session.
We accept payment by cash or cheque
Cheques should be made payable to;

We do not accept payment by Credit or debit cards for Counselling Services.
